First Bristol Federal Credit Union forging ahead during pandemic, still offer everything customers could want

BRISTOL – The city’s oldest continuously-operating financial institution is accommodating its members in any fashion, to suit their fancy.

First Bristol Federal Credit Union, located at 25 North St., reopened its lobby just about three weeks ago, but has continued providing services throughout the pandemic.

“We’re forging ahead,” business development officer Peter Kelley told the Press. “Things have changed; we’ve had to adapt and we have done so. We have a lot of loyal, hardworking employees who have really stepped up to meet the challenges they’ve been faced with.”

When the state of Connecticut closed down businesses and industries to stop the spread of covid-19 this past spring, First Bristol was considered among essential operations and continued functioning. Employees who could work from home did so, still providing the superior quality of service expected by members.

The majority of members have become accustomed to the convenience of conducting secure online transactions with the institution, according to Kelley.

“I think people have reached a comfort level doing things online and in the drive-through,” he said. “We’re utilizing online closings with loans and loan applications as well, which makes it convenient and safer for people who might be apprehensive to be face-to-face right now.”

Among the services available online through mobile banking are check deposits, bill pay, management of debit or credit cards as well as checking and savings accounts and transfer of funds.

However, many people belong to First Bristol Federal Credit Union because they enjoy the relationship with staff, ease of service and old-fashioned values. These members may prefer to conduct their banking business inside the facility, with precautionary measures in place to protect the safety of all.

Members and staff are required to wear masks and stay home if feeling ill. Furthermore, all employees have their temperatures taken as they enter the premises.

President Mark Cornacchio considers the safety and well-being of all employees and members his No. 1 priority. That’s one of the reasons Kelley takes pride in working for this longstanding institution.

“We’re flexible,” he said. “We will do whatever we can to accommodate our members.”
