William (Bill) J. Grennan, 91, formerly of Westerly, R.I., passed away at Apple Rehab Watch Hill on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017. He was the husband of the late Irene (Madore) Grennan, who predeceased him on Jan. 10 of this year.
Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late John and Pauline Grennan.
William worked in the family business, Grennan and Sons Plumbing and Heating in Bristol and in the Connecticut Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and for General Motors until his retirement in 1993. Bill loved sports and assisted the Forestville Little League as a home plate umpire for many years.
He graduated from Memorial Boulevard High School in Bristol and was a member of the tennis team. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, and a member of the American Legion and the Westerly BPOE #678.
He leaves his three children, Mark Grennan and wife, Nina, of Climax, N.Y., David Grennan and wife, Beverly, of Brooklyn, and Lisa Topa and husband, Daniel, of Charlestown, R.I.; along with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
William was predeceased by his sister, Anna May Manning of Bristol, and brothers, John Grennan of Jupiter, Fla. and Paul Grennan of Bristol.
Visiting hours are omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial with Full Military Honors will be celebrated at St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road., Charlestown, RI on Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
