To the Editor:

I was certainly filled with profound sadness, when Dave and Mike Pasqualicchio, told me that they had decided to close Nuchie’s.

The location where Nuchie’s stands has served as either a saloon or restaurant ever since the railroad came to “The Village” in 1850. Hopefully, a new owner will continue this historic trend.

It goes without saying Nuchie’s always provided an excellent meal and exemplary professional service, which was conducted by all of its staff. Everyone at Nuchie’s attempted to make your dining experience enjoyable. They certainly fulfilled this goal.

There is much more to say, however, about how the Pasqualicchio family contributed to the community, “The Village”, and to those with whom they interacted.

Whether I was engaged as a member of the Forestville Village Association or selling duck tickets and Christmas ornaments, throughout the years in the hallways at their establishment, I always felt like a member of the Nuchie’s family. Mike and Dave had created that kind of an environment. Everyone was important as an individual. Everyone at Nuchie’s welcomed me in and treated me like a staff member and friend.

Dave’s love for Forestville can even be exemplified by his constant cleaning of the “Village” streets while also focusing on the beautification of the Center. He served as the only president of the Forestville Village Association and initiated the installation of historic markers within Forestville.

Mike, a behind-the-scene individual, did all the food preparation. A little-known fact is Mike ran a golf tournament for the benefit of the FVA. This was not only enjoyable, but also placed significant money in the FVA treasury. He is also a loyal Baltimore Orioles fan. This I never understood, but boy is he loyal rooter.

Family, family, family that was most significant to these brothers. I always marveled at their commitment to this aspect of their lives even though they were extremely busy. On the personal side, they treated my wife, Donna, who passed away nearly three years ago with remarkable fondness and love. When I was volunteering at Nuchie’s they would constantly send a take-out meal home for her, which she looked forward to. She so much admired their place setting and dishes, and they donated some of these to her. These I now use and will serve as a constant reminder to me of how generous and caring they were to my family. Every year on Christmas Eve afternoon they have a great and spirited family gathering at their location. Donna and I were always invited. She looked forward to this and the bottle of William Hill wine that was always at our table.

I and many others throughout the community want to thank the Pasqualicchio’s - Dave and his wife, Denise, and his two daughters, as well as, Mike, his wife Marie, son and daughter for all that you gave to others especially sharing with Donna and me.

Thanks also to all the great staff members who worked there; you were remarkable. I truly considered you friends! Enjoy your retirement it is well deserved!
