BRISTOL - New England Urgent Care is a “true urgent care center” because the staff and founders have emergency medical experience, according to Melanie Thomson, who handles marketing and communications for the center.

“We’ve been in practice with the urgent care system since 2011,” Thomson said. However, she noted that the NEUC location in Bristol opened in December 2014 and is one of four locations in the state.

Thomson explained that urgent care facilities are different than walk-in clinics because the staff is emergency trained, so it “is able to handle more non-critical illnesses and injuries than most any other walk-ins.”

The entire staff and all providers at NEUC have been through emergency training, she said, though, NEUC’s “superiority of care” is what sets it apart from other urgent care facilities.

“NEUC was founded by an emergency medicine physician and emergency medicine nurse,” Thomson said. “So we have the true emergency care experience.”

Anyone can come in for non-life threatening medical conditions, she explained, and unlike other urgent care facilities, NEUC has all the equipment to handle most of those conditions on site.

In the event a patient needs to go to hospital when at NEUC, she said that the staff can help “expedite care right from clinic” and into ER, so the patient won’t have to wait in the emergency room.

Thomson recalled a situation over the summer where a NEUC staff member saved a patient’s life, and showed the importance of emergency training.

An elderly man had come in with chest pain and had a heart attack on site, she said. The staff revived him, she continued, and kept him breathing until they got him to emergency room on time.

Additionally, NEUC is certified by the Urgent Care Association of America and won best of the Bristol Press in 2015 and 2016, she said.

“When you go to NEUC you know you’re in good hands,” Thomson added, explaining this is due to their top healthcare providers, friendly and caring staff and convenient hours.

NEUC is located at 576 Farmington Ave. and is open every day of the year.
