NEW BRITAIN - It ended up being quite the season for the Central Connecticut State football team.
The Blue Devils, who won their conference title and reached the FCS playoffs, received a a little more good news on Monday. CCSU earned a final ranking in both FCS Top 25 polls, finishing No. 22 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 23 in the STATS Top 25. The Blue Devils went 11-2 overall and won the Northeast Conference championship to qualify for the FCS playoffs before losing to Albany in the first round.
CCSU earned its first ranking in any of the top 25 polls on Oct. 14, coming in at No. 25 after beating Columbia to be ranked for the first time since 2006, and reached as high as No. 17 on Nov. 4 after beating Wagner on the road.
The Blue Devils set a program record for wins with 11 and tied the school-record with eight-straight wins before finishing the regular season 11-1, winning its second NEC title in three years. CCSU’s only loss came on the road to FBS-member Eastern Michigan.
