NEW BRITAIN - For the second straight week, the Central Connecticut State football team has risen in one national poll and fell slightly in another.
The Blue Devils (9-1, 5-0) moved up to No. 19 in the STATS FCS Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday, and marks the fifth straight week the program finds itself in the national rankings after outlasting St. Francis (Pa) in overtime, 38-31, on Saturday. CCSU had been No. 20.
But the Blue Devils dropped one spot in the FCS coaches poll, which was also released on Monday. CCSU went from No. 17, which was the program’s highest-ever ranking at the time, to No. 18.
The Blue Devils are tied for the second-best record in terms of wins in the country with nine, matching No. 2 James Madison (9-1), which is coming off a blowout win over New Hampshire, 54-16. Only No. 1 North Dakota State (10-0) has more wins.
CCSU is also one of six FCS program’s without a loss to another FCS program this season, joining North Dakota State, James Madison, No. 3 Weber State (8-2), No. 11/12 Darmouth (8-0) and No. 12/14 Florida A&M (8-1).
The Blue Devils are back at home this upcoming weekend and will host Robert Morris (6-4, 5-0) in a crucial NEC matchup. The game will air live on NEC Front Row.
