BRISTOL - Visiting Maloney put up perhaps a bigger challenge than expected Wednesday night, but the Bristol Central boys basketball team finally managed to take control in the fourth quarter to earn a 52-46 victory.

The Rams jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead and expanded the margin to 11 early in the second quarter, but Maloney battled back with an 11-0 run to tie the game. The teams fought back and forth over the entire second half until Bristol Central put the game away at the free throw line in the closing seconds for its fourth straight win.

Up by two with a minute to go, the Rams converted eight straight free throws, including six by Alex Bernier, to pull out the victory. The Rams had made only four of 13 going into the final period, but connected for 10 charity points in the final period.

Spencer led the scoring for Bristol Central (5-3) with 18. Bernier had 11 and Dathan Hickey 10 for the Rams.

Ramello Samuels was the game’s high scorer with 26, including four from three point range, for Maloney (1-7).
