Last week’s snowstorm put a damper on the high school sports schedule and forced teams to scramble to fit in makeup games, setting up a very busy schedule for most area basketball teams in the week ahead.

Highlighting the week is the first matchup of the season between rivals Terryville and Thomaston in the annual co-ed basketball doubleheader at Terryville on Friday.

The week also features an interesting area wrestling matchup as Terryville travels to St. Paul on Tuesday.

Bristol Central boys basketball coach Tim Barrette won his 100th regular season game on Saturday at Fitch and will be looking to launch the second century with three games this week, including a couple of big CCC South home games.

The Rams are 3-3 on the season and will face Plainville and Maloney at home on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to take on Tolland in a CCC interdivisional matchup on Friday night.

Bristol Eastern’s boys lost for just the second time this season in their only outing last week and have a couple of chances to get back on track as they step away from the CCC South this week. The Lancers host 2-2 Avon tonight and travel to Enfield to battle the 4-1 Eagles.

St. Paul’s boys picked up their first win of the season on Saturday and will be looking to add to that win total at home against 1-5 Kennedy on Wednesday, before traveling to 1-4 Oxford on Friday.

Terryville’s boys also came up with their first win of the year last week. The Kangaroos face a busy week with a trip to Gilbert on Tuesday, a home match against Achievement First on Wednesday and the first meeting of the year against rival Thomaston on Friday.

Terryville has a good chance to add to its win total as the week’s opponents have managed just two wins between them so far this season.

On the girls side, St. Paul continued its strong season with a win in its only outing of the week last week. The 6-1 Falcons should add to that win total this week as they battle 2-5 Kennedy in Waterbury on Wednesday and come home to host winless Oxford on Friday.

Bristol Eastern’s girls suffered a rare CCC South loss at Platt on Saturday to fall below the .500 mark on the season, and it isn’t going to get much easier for the Lancers this week, as Weaver comes to town for a non-league match on Tuesday and the Lancers host Enfield, one of the state’s top-five teams, on Thursday.

Both Terryville and Bristol Central are still looking for the first win of the season and each face another tough week.

The Kangaroos (0-5) take on 4-2 Gilbert at home on Wednesday and then battle Thomaston, just 3-3 on the season but a perennial Class S powerhouse, in the opening game of Friday’s doubleheader.

The Rams are 0-8 and have a tough CCC South match at Plainville on Tuesday before coming home to take on 3-5 Manchester in a CCC interdivisional match on Friday.

Bristol Eastern continues to dominate the area wrestling scene after its overwhelming win at the Bristol Central tournament last weekend. The Lancers step out of the CCC this week as they travel to Storrs to roll over E.O. Smith on Wednesday and then go to Cumberland, R.I., for a tournament on Saturday.

Bristol Central, 4-3 and 1-0 CCC South, will get a good idea of where it stands in the CCC South when the Rams travel to Plainville for a dual meet on Wednesday. Central will participate in the annual Art Powers Duals at Berlin on Saturday.

Terryville and St. Paul will square off on the mat at St. Paul on Tuesday. The Kangaroos will also visit Thomaston on Thursday and participate in the Art Powers Duals on Saturday. St. Paul travels to Gilbert for a dual tournament on Saturday.

The Bristol swim team is still looking for that elusive first win and has another tough week against highly-regarded teams. The co-op program travels to Manchester Tuesday and hosts Southington at the Malone Pool on Friday.

Bristol Central’s indoor track team will be at the SCC Coaches Invitational meet in New Haven on Saturday. Eastern takes part in the 9th/10th relays at Glastonbury on Saturday.
